Aran Islands Photography Trip

Aran Islands Photography Trip

How lucky we all were as a family to travel to photograph the Aran Islands in Co Galway. And what a wonderful few days of good weather we were in store for set amongst the history and beautiful landscape we found there. We started on Inisheer, the smallest of the three Islands and set out on a horse and cart old-school style around the island on arrival. The fresh breeze of the Atlantic was a tonic for the soul, and the experience was very much enjoyed by the two boys, Tristan and Jack and Claire. The Islands are beautiful in their own right in natural formations of cliffs formed at the coast, and the dry stone walls are very much a part of the layout of the fields and the way of life sustained on them for many centuries by the local inhabitants. Having spent the day photographing the first islands’ wilds, it was time to move on to Inishmore, the largest of the three islands, where the magical and picturesque experience continued. I rented an electric bike and took off to explore the photographic possibilities by covering every highway and byway and plenty of walking to the more remote locations.

I spent two days on Inismore before packing up and heading to the mainland with an SD card full of potentially fitting images that would hopefully do some justice to this land of worldwide renown which is very much a part of the Irish history and heritage.
