01 Dec Auction of Fine Art Photography & Paintings
My partner Claire and I spent the day on Tuesday this week at an annual event to raise funds for the Cill Rialaig Project which is a retreat for Artists in the picturesque area of Ballinskellig Bay where international artists stay in some beautifully restored cottages at no cost and produce work amongst the beautiful Irish landscape in their chosen field of expression. We were delighted to be invited this year, as this is the first time ever a photograph by a fine art photographer was auctioned to help this great and worthy cause. Dr Noelle Campbell-Sharp is the wonderful person behind this project, which many have benefited from over the years including me. It is great to see that fine art photography is being accepted into and validated alongside other art forms in Ireland as up until recently it has not had this kudos. We are very grateful to be included at this level and to be acknowledged in this regard.
The picture that we decided on was called ‘Paris in the Summer’ and is part of a limited edition print run of 45 pieces. It was well received and fetched a reasonable price. The Patrick Donald website has a section called Master Works where we sell over 150 archival photographs signed and edition pieces that are ideal for collectors and photography enthusiasts. In it, you will find everything from classic landscape photography of Ireland to street photography in a documentary style. In essence, the selection is less destination-driven and more about their ability to deliver on their timeless nature and to give someone’s wall an extra window to an uplifting moment.
