31 May Beautiful Ireland Photography
Have you ever wondered how lucky we are here on the Island of Ireland as to the beauty of our small island? The people may draw you in with their charm and friendly welcomes, and then there is the natural landscape that is varied and ever-changing with the seasons and the force of the wind and ocean, moulding it with intent. With this recent belt of fantastic weather, it makes me think how the weather plays a huge role not only in the timing for photographs to be actualised but also in how being a small country on the edge of Europe means that it gets a mix of weather that keeps you guessing as a photographer and also shapes the topography continually which in turn adds more opportunity to the landscape photographer. I am indeed a fan of classic black-and-white photography per se, and it, in its own way, offers a particular form of seeing the world. On occasions, though during fine weather, it is more difficult to ignore the possibilities of colour photography and the added aesthetic of the Caribbean feel that can be achieved. Landscape photography can have its place. When making colour pictures, I like to make the black and white base first and then bring back the colours in a realistic fashion to complete the final print. This has the most impact without having the whole gamut of colours that can be too much to enjoy fully. And yes, you can accentuate the colours in the scene by enhancing what was in the background to help the overall impact. This is fine as each camera picks up colours differently and will never be the same as the actual scene. As soon as a photograph is taken, it echoes the past as best it can when viewed. As with any art form, the less repeatable it is, the more value an original print should have, and the potential emotion it can evoke is the most crucial element to me. Sharing what it was like at the scene is everything as a fine art photographer, as it completes the cycle of why we do what we do as picture makers. Thank you sincerely for your interest in the work. Should you need any help realising any project, we are always open to collaborating to make the most of any space requiring a lift with some Irish Landscape imagery made by yours truly. Patrick Donald
