    Cuba 2008

    Cuba 2008

    Last days of Fidel Castro

A photographic record of Cuba and Cuban people at the end of the Castro era.

Cuba we are in no doubt will change radically after this photographic record of 2008, it’s just a question of how fast. It has been caught in the past due to its political situation, embargo’s, free trade etc it is a visual feast for any street photographer. The crumbling old buildings and vintage cars, the salsa dancing and of course cigars are the main things that many people know about Cuba. But what about the wonderful people that have been amongst this revolution many of which have had to struggle to have enough to eat in a system that has been less than ideal for them.  This is what makes it an interesting photographic destination amongst the back drop of Colonial Cuba. When I travelled there at the end of 2007 and photographed for the month of January he knew that it would not be long before the end of the Castro era, and specifically went in order to record what wonderful Cuba was like at that time.
